Detailed Description
A mobile workstation is a device that transforms a smartphone into an edge gateway.
Smartphones are low-power, portable devices that combine communication (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G/LTE/5G) with a computer. While the Android OS is typically used in portable applications, this workstation uses the Linux OS instead, transforming it into a compact desktop-like structure. By linking Bluetooth and cellular communications, it transforms into a gateway capable of long-distance connectivity, serving as the backbone of an IoT system.
The workstation was developed to address the shortcomings of existing smartphones, such as continuous power and insufficient interfaces. It features software and protocol technologies developed by a complex solution to ensure that Linux OS software is compatible with the smartphone Linux kernel.
Using upcycled used phones, it is less expensive than existing repeaters and offers energy-saving features. Furthermore, it utilizes solar power, making it suitable for use in environments with poor communication infrastructure. This makes it ideal for a variety of IoT systems, including smart farms.
