CK is a type of protein used by the muscle cells of your body. The appearance of CK in blood has been generally considered to be an indirect marker of muscle damage, which could have resulted from medical conditions such as myocardial infarction, muscular dystrophy, acute kidney injury, rhabdomyolysis and cerebral diseases. Other types of muscle injury such as surgery and strenuous exercise, can also cause a higher CK level. The measurement of CK levels can be useful in diagnosing muscle conditions, as well as monitoring the severity and progression of muscle damage.
