In closed position the door is flush with the side shell plating, and in open position the door is stowed inside against the perpendicular wall to the shell plate folded into half size by the folding hinges.
Depending on how it opens, three types are available; folding, sliding, and hinge type.

Detailed Description
The pilot doors, which are used as a passage for the pilot and are operated by a hydraulic power system,
are fitted in the side shell plating, one at the port and one at starboard side.
The pilot door consists of the door, ladder reel with pilot ladder and necessary fittings.
Each door has an independent hydraulic system with each power unit consisting of an electric motor and pump.
The control of the operation is performed from the control panel which is located adjacent to each side pilot door.
In an emergency, the operation of door opening/closing and cleat lock/unlock is possible by using a hand pump mounted on the power unit.
