Lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl is ‘Na-Jeon-Chil-Gi’ in Korean. The composition and meaning are as follows; ‘Na’ means conch, ‘Jeon’ means binyeo (Korean traditional ornamental hairpin), ‘Chil’ means lacquering and ’Gi’ means bowl.

In a word, it means a lacquered bowl beautifully decorated with a seashell.

The reason why mother-of-pearl is dazzlingly beautiful is that its main component is calcium carbonate, colorless transparent crystal, and tissues in the inner surface of shells are composed of a lot of fractions with thin leaf shape and cause a rainbow phenomenon when they meet the light.
